In hotel maintenance terms it is better described as Infra red scanning for all electrical distribution systems & switch gear .This is a part of any PM programme & the temperature of the concerned distribution boards are checked to determine cause of overheating & remedial action there of . where are you located ,if possible advise your location that might assist in locating a suitable company who does that .I have carried out this with companies in Manila,Jakarta,UAE &Oman .Let me know if I can be of any assistance to locate a company which would help.Hoep this helps.regards

Buy an infrared meter and do the job yourself. And what do you mean by "what benefits can be gained"? The "benefits" are you replace defective components and avoid breakdowns of your electrical system, pumps, fans etc. As pointed out by a previous post it should be part of your daily maintenance program. Cheers,

Ken, if you can buy a Fluke Ti 10 thermal immager, it is quite reasonable inprice and will do what you want, when you want. It is advisable to get a 3rd party to carry out a survey and then there can be no cover ups of potential problems etc, that could happen, safegaurds you and your company. The benifits are several, for example on motors, in patrticular the bearings, you can take an image of units you know are in perfect condition and save as a reference, then if you periodically check and see a rise in the temperature you have an indication of possible or upcomming failure. When surveying a distribution board you can identify any hot spots and plan the necessary action and minimise down time and interuption to end users. The statment by 'Chief' is a bit excessive to carry this out as part of your daily PPM, a yearly survey by a third party is the norm, but if you can convince your owners the benifitsof having your own, you can include this in your PPM at whatever intervals you think suitable, I do my own survey every six months. Google infrared surveying I'm sure you will find out all the info you need I hope this is of some help.
