Interview Questions For Dfob
Posted 11 July 2012 - 07:54 AM
I have the opportunity to interview for an international hotel in south of China for the position as DFOB. I am currently Assistant Director of F&B and naturally I am a little bit nervous about the interview.
I have been holding my position for 2 years in an international hotel in China with a similar number of rooms and F&B outlets.
Could you tell me what kind of questions you would ask me? I want to prepare for the interview and of course get the job.

What do you feel is your strongest point? (regarding team leadership)
What do you bring to the table-why should I hire YOU?!
Why are you leaving your present employer?
What makes you so different from all the other candidates?
What are your hobbies?

What are your goals in your professional life?
Do you have any crisis management skills or training?
Tell me about your wine knowledge.

Regarding "green" and sustainability-where do you stand?
What does Certified Organic really mean, and what is Slow Foods?
Are you an active participant in any social media, FaceBook LinkedIn MySpace YouTube and do you write a Blog? (you had better have a "proper" page -so be prepared for them to view your status-proper means no porn or odd stuff like blowing up the hotel you are interviewing for!)
Who is Fernand Point?
What is the roll of education in creating positions in the China oriented job market?
What is more important and why, education or experience?
Who will be the future leaders in China?

If you were being interviewed by me for the postion of DOFB, I would ask this question before any other;
Can you inspire others around you to dream more, learn more, do more? (John Quincy Adams)
If you believe you could then we would proceed to the next step of the process, but if you believed you could not, then it would be better to end the interview, because at that level of the business, what is required first and foremost from F&B and from other team leaders, even above diplomas, experience and technical skills, is the ablity to lead and develop your people and your profits, in that order.

Thank you very much for all your advise. I am sorry that I didn't update the status on my application as I told I would. Anyways, I got my contract 2 weeks ago. Sweet! However, for one reason or another I am not able to transfer away from my current property to the new hotel. So now I have to play the waiting game and hope that the position is still available once I am allowed to leave.
