Hilton Hotels Corp (HHC) president Asia-Pacific, Mr Koos Klein, has decided to leave the company and the search is on for an area president (Asia-Pacific operations) to replace Mr Klein, who has agreed to stay on latest by the end of the year.
Mr Klein, who has headed HHC in Asia-Pacific for 10 years and was recently named Asia-Pacific Hotelier of the Year by Jones Lang LaSalle Hotels, is planning to return to Australia, where his two sons are studying and he has citizenship. He will be taking some time off before considering a new role after settling in Sydney.
An internal memo from HHC president (global operations), Mr Ian Carter, said: "Koos has made an enormous contribution to the success of our business, particularly in terms of our presence and our prospects for growth and development in Asia. We are now well positioned for high growth potential in the key markets of both India and China. During his leadership in Asia, Koos has opened many of our flagship Hilton hotels such as Sydney, as well as leading resort hotels, which has resulted in the company establishing a strong brand presence and awareness in the region. "
Mr Klein told TTG Daily News his decision had everything to do with his personal life and wanting to be closer to the family in Sydney.
HHC is looking internally and externally for Mr Klein's successor. The person will come in at a time when HHC is experiencing unprecedented growth in the region - 300 hotels by the next nine years, from only 25 hotels 10 years ago.
