Diamond Jubilee Prompts Strong Demand for Hotels in London

London hotels are set for a Royal celebration in June as the capital plays host to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
At this point in the booking window, committed occupancy across the city for Sunday June 3 - the day of the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant - is up a staggering 115% compared to last year, according to leading hotel market intelligence firm TravelClick.
The following day illustrates similar data, when Buckingham Palace is the venue for a star-studded concert. Hotel bookings on Monday June 4 are currently running 81% higher than the same date last year.
"The rise in committed occupancy this far in advance demonstrates the huge affection for the Royal family from both Brits and audiences around the world," explained Jan Tissera, President International, TravelClick. "The significant increase in bookings for June 3 and 4, which coincides with the large spectator events for the Jubilee, is proof that visitors don't want to miss out on the fun and are staying in the capital to make the most of the weekend."
TravelClick's data - which is drawn from travel agents, online booking sites and the hotel chains themselves - also reveals that Royal sightseers still have the opportunity to book rooms over the June bank holiday. On average, rates for the entire weekend period (June 1-4) have risen just 10.8% despite the high levels of demand.
"The message for anyone who is considering coming to London for the Diamond Jubilee is to book soon," added Tissera. "We can expect prices to increase, and hotels rooms to fill up nearer the date, but at present there are still rooms available for the holiday weekend."
