The ten largest hotel brands are on the move: with more than 10,000 new hotel rooms Hilton has the strongest growth, which is even higher as the growth of the industry leader Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express with just 7,700 new hotel rooms. This data has been revealed by a current analysis of TOPHOTELPROJECTS (http://www.tophotelprojects.com), the worldwide leading provider of global b2b hotel data. Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express by InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) remains at the first place of the ten largest hotel brands in the world with a large distance. Follower Best Western grows as quick as Holiday Inn - 4,700 hotel rooms arise internationally but with currently 311,000 existing hotel rooms Best Western is clearly behind the first place. Hilton, the large and strong brand by the same named US hotel company (which will be brought back to the stock exchange in 2014) is going to pass the brand Comfort Inns & Suites by Choice Hotel and it will reduce the distance to Marriott. Hilton Worldwide is the second largest hotel group so far and therefore is ahead of Marriott International and just a bit behind IHG. A second hotel brand by Hilton which is growing also very strong is Hampton Inn by Hilton.

Online channels are a growing source of solid business for hotels, according to Pegasus Solutions. Though August leisure bookings from online channels were down 0.2 percent from August last year, year to date online bookings have increased 2.2 percent, and online-booked rates are up by 2.8 percent so far this year, according to Pegasus. “Our data show guests are booking online, and paying solid rates,” said David Millili, chief executive officer of Pegasus Solutions, in a statement. “It’s up to the hotel to steer those bookings back to the brand site. New opportunities for hotels to engage directly with the online consumer are emerging almost monthly.” Millili added, “Beyond the desktop and mobile presences, hotels need to ‘own’ their digital presence to leverage opportunities for direct bookings through tools like the Google Carousel and TripAdvisor’s soon to be released TripConnect.” Overall, August leisure hotel rates rose 4.2 percent over the same period last year, according to Pegasus, though leisure volume was slightly lower than August 2012.
