Kempinski Hotels plans to expand in Africa. Kempinski Hotels, Europe's oldest luxury hotel group, has announced plans to expand its portfolio of luxury hotels in Africa. With two new properties opened in Kenya in 2013, Kempinski looks to add five more hotels to its African portfolio in the next year. Upcoming openings in Africa in 2014 include the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City in Accra, Ghana and the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski in Cairo, Egypt set to open early in the year, as well as a newly signed 450 key hotel in the future capital of Equatorial Guinea, Oyala. Fairmont takes on new property in Hangzhou. Fairmont is to expand its portfolio of hotels in China with a new property in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang province in the heart of Yangtze River Delta region, Eastern China. Expected to open in 2017, Fairmont Hangzhou will feature 300 rooms, five dining outlets, an health club and swimming pool, a Willow Steam Spa, and more than 32,000 square feet (3,000 square meters) of meeting and banquet space. Hotel Baltazár in Budapest, Hungary, opens. The hotel is located within Buda Castle in Budapest’s historical city center. The property includes a grill, bar, wine bar and wine store. All 11 guest rooms and suites are individually designed and furnished by interior designer Tibor Somlai and graphic designer Geza Ipacs. Rooms feature art and designs inspired by Vivienne Westwood, Keith Haring and Andy Warhol, as well as original vintage furniture.
