Antonio Álvarez is the new General Manager of Grand Hyatt Tokyo. He now oversees the 387-room hotel, as well as its ten restaurants and bars, banquet-space totalling 2,800 sq m and an exclusive Spa.
Álvarez joins Grand Hyatt Tokyo from Palacio Duhau-Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, where he has been General Manager for the past four years. Prior to joining Hyatt, Álvarez gained solid food and beverage expertise with Barcelona Hilton and Ritz Carlton Hotels in Barcelona, Atlanta and New York. He returned to Spain in February 2003 as Director of Food and Beverage and then General Manager of Grand Hotel La Florida in Barcelona.
Álvarez started his Hyatt career as the opening Director of Operations for Palacio Duhau - Park Hyatt Buenos Aires in September 2005. In October 2007, he was appointed as the General Manager for Park Hyatt Mendoza until 2009, when he returned to Buenos Aires to become General Manager for Palacio Duhau - Park Hyatt Buenos Aires, a position he has held until this latest appointment.
Christophe Lorvo moves with Grand Hyatt from Tokyo to Rio
Christophe Lorvo has been promoted to Area Vice President and General Manager of Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro. He previously served as the General Manager for Grand Hyatt Tokyo from May 2009 through to December 2013.
Pilar Rios takes Sales and Marketing role for Viceroy in Mexico
Viceroy Hotel Group has announced the appointment of Pilar Rios as the Area Director of Sales and Marketing for its two luxury Mexico resorts, Viceroy Zihuatanejo and Viceroy Riviera Maya.
Rios, who has more than 15 years of executive experience in the hospitality industry, came to Viceroy from Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts where she was Area Director of Sales and Marketing for Mexico.
She has also previously held senior management positions with Sol Melia Hotels and Resorts.
Riaan Nels joins the team as Director, Food & Beverage. He was previously at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh.
John Boulware joins as Director of Finance, having worked at luxury resorts such as Omni Mount Washington in New Hampshire and Cap Juluca in the Caribbean, along with two Houston-area Omni properties.
Tom Moore brings facilities and project management expertise to his new position as Director of Engineering. Most recently, Moore served as director of facilities for Alliance Residential where he led the residential community physical asset preservation for Austin and San Antonio.
Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa gets new Group GM
Sunway International Hotels & Resorts has appointed Albert Cheong as Group General Manager of Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. He is responsible for the operations of the 1,234-room multi-property hotel development within the integrated Sunway Resort City in Greater Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
A thirty-five (35) year hospitality industry veteran, Cheong has opened as well as managed hotels across Asia. Prior to joining Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Cheong spent the last three years as Area General Manager with The Landmark Lancaster Hotel Group that has hotels in Bangkok and London. He was previously with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts for close to 30 years. He has held various management positions including being General Manager of the hotel group's properties in Bali, Indonesia; Shenzhen, Wuhan and Beijing in China; Singapore; and Yangon in Myanmar.
