MGM Resorts installs largest number of EV charging stations in Nevada
MGM Resorts International has started the largest installation of Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging stations in Nevada.
Twenty-seven EV charging stations will be located at nine of the company's Las Vegas resorts in addition to MGM Resorts' main corporate offices. Additional stations will be available at Circus Circus Reno. The charging stations, which will be installed in guest garages and valet areas, will be available for employees and guests to use at no cost.
"It is important that our guests have the convenience and ability to continue sustainable habits during their time with us," said Cindy Ortega, Chief Sustainability Officer of MGM Resorts International. "The installation of these charging stations encourages green practices in both our guests and employees, serving as a natural step toward smarter, cleaner transportation systems."
Drivers will be able to access real-time information about the ChargePoint EV charging stations via a mobile application, which shows whether a station is open; the percentage of charge on the vehicle, when the vehicle is fully charged and when a charging nozzle has been removed. Each charger is equipped with two Level 2 charging ports supplying up to 7.2 kW, full motion colour LCD display and a robust cord retraction system. All units will have the industry standard SAE J1772 charging ports.
Four charging stations at Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand Las Vegas and Circus Circus Reno have already been installed and are fully operational. Installation of the remaining EV charging stations is expected to be complete by the end of February 2014. MGM Resorts installed its first charging stations in 2011 at The Shoppes at Mandalay Place and The Shops at Crystals. In 2012, an additional station was installed at its corporate office.
In 2012, Transparency Market Research reported 71,174 registered EVs in the United States and more than 180,000 in the world. The figure has more than doubled since 2011. The number of registered EVs in the world is expected to grow by more than 18 percent by 2018.
This installation of EV charging stations is part of a long-standing partnership with NV Energy, and one of many clean energy projects underway by MGM Resorts.
Marriott upgrades mobile app for fast checkout
The Marriott Mobile app for smartphones has now added mobile checkout to its feature list. This compliments the app's current mobile check-in capability at 326 of Marriott's North American hotels. An additional 22 international hotels will add mobile checkout next week. Later this year, the entire Marriott Hotels brand - all 500 properties worldwide - will offer mobile check-in and checkout, available in English, Chinese, French, Spanish and German.
The new mobile service is exclusively for Marriott Rewards members. To date, the Marriott Mobile app has been downloaded over 2.8 million times.
How it works
In the morning on the day of their departure, Marriott Rewards guests will receive a push notification on their Apple iPhones or Android devices alerting them mobile checkout is available. Upon completing mobile checkout, guests will then be prompted to provide an email address and their bill will be emailed to them, allowing guests to bypass the front desk on their way out.
The Marriott Mobile app, which can be downloaded in the Apple iTunes Store and Google Play, makes it easier than ever to join Marriott Rewards, as well as gain immediate access to mobile check-in and checkout at Marriott Hotels.
In July 2013, Marriott Hotels introduced mobile check-in and it quickly expanded throughout the continental U.S. and Canada and then at select international hotels. After more than 150,000 mobile check-ins, guest feedback cites the convenience of faster check-in once they arrive. Guests also appreciate the alert notifying them their room is ready. It gave them less to worry about while traveling.
Select Marriott Hotels' properties are testing future mobile services that will lead to a truly digital two-way conversation with their guests. At these incubator hotels, guests using the chat feature on their smartphones can make requests to hotel staff for things such as extra pillows, bath amenities, towels, valet parking and wake up calls, or anything else. The incubator hotels include:
Hilton's launches a Honeymoon Registry
The new Hilton Honeymoon Registry is an online registry allows the opportunity to gift memorable experiences and accommodation upgrades throughout a couple's honeymoon hotel stay.
"Couples can register with more than 100 properties across our brands to relax, explore and be pampered in some of the most exotic and exciting locations around the world," said Andrew Flack, vice president, product marketing and customer insights, Hilton Worldwide. "Newlywed couples can make it easy for their friends and family to help them build a honeymoon full of special memories and once-in-a-lifetime experiences found only through travel."
The new registry launches as more couples are looking to plan honeymoons. According to XO Group Inc., creators of TheKnot.com and WeddingChannel.com, honeymoon planning is on the rise for the first time since 2009. For the past several years, brides reported that they were postponing honeymoons, due to the economy, to keep wedding budgets in check (study released in 2013, based on 2012 data).
Launched in partnership with HoneymoonWishes.com, the Hilton Honeymoon Registry allows couples to view sample registries and offers advice on planning the perfect honeymoon. In addition to registering for components of a destination wedding or honeymoon, engaged couples have the option of designing a personalized website that can easily be shared with wedding guests. Family and friends can gift services, amenities, upgrades and experiences through a couple's online registry.
Couples can visit http://hhonors.com/registry to create a customized Hilton Honeymoon Registry page; choose from a list of participating Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts, Conrad Hotels & Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Embassy Suites Hotels and Hilton Grand Vacations properties; register for experiences and amenities; and reveal the registry to friends and family using the site's announcement and email tools.
To help couples tailor the perfect honeymoon vacation, Hilton Suggests serves as a Twitter honeymoon concierge to assist couples prior to and during their stay on property. Tweet @HiltonSuggests for planning advice, recommendations and assistance in creating the ideal itinerary.
