Tan Choon Kwang named Chief Operating Officer of Meritus Hotels & Resorts
Singapore-based Meritus Hotels & Resorts has appointed Tan Choon Kwang as Chief Operating Officer.
A seasoned hotelier, Choon Kwang brings with him over 30 years of expertise gained through an extensive career in Singapore, France, Japan, Australia, UK and USA. He worked for major hospitality companies such as Swissotel Hotels & Resorts, Raffles International Hotels & Resorts and Westin Hotels at corporate, regional and property levels. He has held several key positions that covered a wide range of functional areas including hotel operations, human resources, corporate development and planning, asset management, business development, finance, information technology and technical services. More recently, Choon Kwang was based in Paris, France for five years as The Ascott Limited's Managing Director for Europe, a post he concurrently held as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Citadines SA. Prior to his appointment with Ascott, Choon Kwang was with Swissotel Hotels & Resorts as the group's Area General Manager for North Asia, in addition to his role as General Manager of Swissotel Nankai Osaka.
As the new COO for Meritus Hotels & Resorts, Choon Kwang will oversee the strategic and operational platforms of Meritus-managed properties, including the Group's flagship Mandarin Orchard Singapore.
Sunny Li appointed Vice President of Development, China at Rosewood Hotel Group
Sunny Li has been appointed vice president of development, China at Rosewood Hotel Group, reporting to James Simmonds who is recently promoted to senior vice president of development, Asia Pacific and China.
In his new role, based in the Rosewood Hotel Group Shanghai Office, Mr. Li will source management agreements and investment and joint venture opportunities to support the growth of the company's Rosewood Hotels & Resorts, New World Hotels and pentahotels brands. He will focus on expansion in the China markets to achieve aggressive growth targets.
Li has over 30 years' experience in the Hong Kong, mainland China and the regional hospitality industry covering development, operations, and sales and marketing at both corporate and property levels. Most recently, he was vice president of development, Greater China at Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts in Shanghai for three years following a four-year position as director of development, Greater China at Wyndham Hotel Group in Hong Kong. Previously, he worked with various hotel groups in Asia Pacific with a focus on sales including Marriott International Asia Pacific, Mega Hotels Management Limited, Delta Hotels & Resorts, Chains Hotels & Resorts and Sheraton Hotels & Towers.
Shahrir Naelis Amir named GM for Silka Johor Bahru, Malaysia
Dorsett Hospitality International has appointed Shahrir Naelis Amir as the new General Manager of the 252-room Silka Johor Bahru.
Shahrir brings along with him more than 24 years' of industry experience. A certified Hotel Star Rating Inspector by Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism and Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) by American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute, Shahrir's past portfolio includes senior positings with Shangri-La Rasa Sayang and Shangri-La Golden Sands in Penang, Malaysia. He has also worked for Sheraton Sydney and Sheraton Penang, Grand Hyatt Singapore and Felda Global Ventures Travel Division.
Shahrir obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration from Herrior-Watt University in United Kingdom.
Starwood Co-President of The Americas Osvaldo Librizzi retires, replacements named
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced that longtime leader, Osvaldo V. Librizzi, will step down from his current role, Co-President of The Americas, at the end of the year and will serve as non-executive Chairman until the end of 2015.
Sergio Rivera, currently Co-President of the Americas, will become President of the Americas and assume full responsibility for the region, and Jorge Giannattasio, currently SVP CFO of the Americas, has been appointed to the role of Chief of Latin America Operations & Global Initiatives, and will begin overseeing regional operations, reporting directly to Rivera. As part of his planned retirement, Librizzi will work closely with Rivera and Giannattasio to ensure a smooth transition throughout the year.
Osvaldo Librizzi began his career with Starwood in 1975 as Assistant Controller at the Sheraton Buenos Aires and served in numerous and progressively senior management positions during the course of his career. Previous to his appointment as Co-President of the Americas, he served as President of Latin America, a position he held for 22 years. Librizzi also served as Senior Vice President and Director of Operations, Latin America Division; Vice President, Latin America and Caribbean Division; Area Manager, South America; and General Manager of the Sheraton Hotels in Santiago de Chile and in Buenos Aires.
Jorge Giannattasio joined Starwood in May 2004 as VP Finance for Latin America, rising in the ranks to most recently serve as SVP Finance for the Americas (Latin America and North America). In that role, he was responsible for the finance organization in 656 owned, managed and franchised properties across 21 countries. Previously, Mr. Giannattasio held senior management positions at Boston Scientific Corporation and Deloitte and Touche both in Latin America and the U.S.
