Kempinski Hotel Chengdu welcomes Axel Bethke as new General Manager
Kempinski Hotel Chengdu has appointed Axel Bethke to the position of General Manager. Prior to his appointment at the Kempinski Hotel Chengdu, Bethke spent almost 2 years as General Manager of the Kempinski Hotel Amman, in the capital of Jordan.
In more than two decades of service in the hotel industry, Bethke's career has included various executive positions at Kempinski hotels in Germany, China and Jordan as well as other international hotel companies in Europe and the US.
The appointment at The Kempinski Hotel Chengdu marks his return to China, having served as Hotel Manager for The Kempinski Hotel Lufthansa Centre Beijing from 2010 to 2012.
Fluent in German and English, Bethke holds a European executive MBA from Reims Management School in France, as well as academicand industry certifications from Germany.
Ella Messerli named GM of Hotel El Ganzo in Cabo
Hotel El Ganzo, Cabo's new Design Boutique, Arts, Live Music, Marina and Spa, has announced the appointment of hospitality veteran Ella Messerli as general manager. Messerli will oversee all operations, manage the supervision and training of hotel staff, as well as nd bring to a new level the already-great service standards of the 72-room boutique property.
Messerli was educated in France, Switzerland and the United States. She began her career as sales manager of the opening operations team at The Westin Hotel in Washington, D.C. and moved quickly up the ladder with Westin, joining their Camino Real division in Mexico, where she served as corporate director of sales before departing to take on the role of director of sales and marketing at Acapulco's Las Brisas hotel in 1992. Following that position, Messerli served as director of sales and marketing for the Mandarin Oriental Mexico City, and then as vice president of marketing and sales for Presidente InterContinental Hotels & Resorts out of its headquarters in Mexico City.
Having honed her skills at a number of prestigious hotel companies, Messerli moved to San Francisco, CA in 1999, where she opened an independent marketing and communications consultancy. A few years later, she was wooed back to Mexico and, for nearly a decade, presided as general manager at Marquis Los Cabos (presently known as Secrets Marquis Los Cabos) where her leadership helped the hotel maintain an average 93 percent guest satisfaction rating, above average GOP, and secure an esteemed Leading Hotels of the World affiliation. During her tenure there, Messerli also spent seven years on the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos CVB, responsible for PR, marketing and special events.
Most recently, Messerli served as general manager of All Baja Solutions, where she coached ecological best practices for hotels, restaurants, hospitals and other businesses in Los Cabos. She was also invited to serve as board member of CREST (Center for Responsible Travel/Stanford University), a non-profit research institution whose mission is to promote responsible tourism policies and practices globally so that local communities may thrive and steward their cultural resources and biodiversity.

The Courtyard Foothill Ranch Irvine East/Lake Forest proudly welcomes new General Manager Devin Houston to the family.
The new leader of the hotel in Foothill Ranch, CA, arrives in the Sunshine State from Macon, GA, where he served as general manager of the SpringHill Suites Macon.
The hotel property Houston is taking over has 149 rooms and seven suites on four floors. The guest rooms feature thick mattresses topped with crisp linens, custom comforters and plenty of fluffy pillows so guests can get a sound night's sleep. It also has four meeting rooms with 1,305 square feet of flexible space and a new lobby sporting the brand's casual The Bistro - Eat. Drink. Connect.
Houston graduated from the University of Utah and joined the Marriott family in 2004 as an hourly associate for Marriott Vacation Club International in Salt Lake City. He continued to climb the corporate ladder by accepting a job as director of loss prevention at Marriott's Mountainside Resort in Park City, Utah. When the Springhill Suites Salt Lake City Airport was built a few years later, Houston served as the opening assistant general manager and interim general manager, allowing him to gain experience and comfort in the operations department. He then tackled sales in a multi-unit director of sales role for the Courtyard, Fairfield Inn and TownePlace Suites hotels in Layton, Utah, before moving to Macon.
