Wotif.com (www.wotif.com), the specialist in discounted last-minute accommodation, named Ramada Hong Kong Hotel, Regal Kowloon Hotel, Mingle Techotel, Novotel Century Harbourview and Prudential Hotel as their top 5 selling hotels in Hong Kong for 2006/07. These hotels sold the most rooms through the popular accommodation site over the past twelve months and were announced at the annual Wotif.com Customer Preferred Choice Awards – held at Aspasia Italian Restaurant at The Luxe Manor yesterday [14 August 2007]. Of the hotels who have listed on Wotif.com within the past 12 months, Metropark Hotel Kowloon was announced as the Star Performer, having made the most sales per month on average since they started selling rooms through the site.
Award-winning boutique hotel group, The Eton Collection, today announces its acquisition by JJW Luxury Collection (JJW)*; at a transaction value of £70m. The new company which will be owned by MBI International will be headed up by Peter Tyrie, as managing director. The move triples The Eton Collection’s** portfolio from five hotels in the UK to a total of 15 properties throughout Europe, including the flagship Threadneedles in the City of London. Peter Tyrie will consolidate all the hotels into one high quality luxury boutique group. One of the most exciting additions to the portfolio is The Berners Hotel off Oxford Street which is currently closed and scheduled for redevelopment. Other properties in UK will include: 42 The Calls, Leeds; The Scotsman, Edinburgh. Overseas properties will include Paris; Hotel de Vigny, Hotel Balzac and La Tremoille. In Vienna; the Grand Hotel Wien and Portugal; The Pinheiros Altos Golf Resort. There are a further two projects in development and plans are afoot to continue to grow the collection.
Shanghai’s popular blue frog brand is expanding internationally to “Asia’s Las Vegas” in Macau. The highly successful, western-style bar and restaurant concept is opening its first venue outside of Shanghai at The Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, the world’s largest casino and flagship of the mega ‘Cotai Strip’ casino and entertainment complex. blue frog bar & grill is strategically located on the main casino level of The Venetian, which opens its doors on August 28. The stylish 6,500 sq ft, 200 seat venue, will offer all-day dining from breakfast, lunch and dinner to afternoon snacks, wines and cocktails.
Always keen on developing skills within the industry, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) is pleased to take interns who have a thirst to develop professional skills with an international edge. Courtesy of a partnership between the University of Toulouse in France and Taylor’s College, Kuala Lumpur, bright spark Hélène Louin, 22, was given an internship, as part of her final training component of her master degree at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, with the promise of “a ‘truly Asian’ experience!”
Dr. The Hon. Ewart F. Brown, JP, MP, Premier and Minister of Tourism and Transport, Government of Bermuda, has accepted the invitation as the Strategic Global Partner and distinguished Speaker of the 2nd World Tourism Marketing Summit (WTMS), which will take place in Beijing, China, October 28-30, 2007. The announcement was made by Sujit Chowdhury, Secretary General of the Summit and President of the Canada-based World Trade University Global Secretariat (WTU). The Summit, hosted by the Beijing Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China, will bring together more than 400 travel and tourism industry leaders from over 50 countries around the globe. "We view Bermuda's support of this World Tourism Marketing Summit in China as a natural part of our tourism objectives and strategy, keeping up with the rapidly and radically changing travel industry. Many of these changes are driven by a more mature, experienced and demanding consumer. Now, more than ever, it is essential that our marketing, advertising and product development teams obtain the knowledge and in-depth analysis of what travelers truly desire. Paul Ratchford, President of The Greenbrier, has appointed hotel industry expert Leanne Mack as Executive Director of Sales. Mack has over ten years of sales management experience, her most recent posting being the Director of Sales for the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California. While there she exceeded all of her personal and team goals for 2006, and became the only Director of Sales at Ritz-Carlton to achieve the Chairman’s Circle Award.
