Emaar Properties has named Marc-Francois Dardenne as the chief executive officer of its division Emaar Hotels & Resorts to lead the development of several planned Armani hotels.
Armani Hotels & Resorts and Armani Residences, a joint venture between Emaar and Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani, will open its first property in 2009 at Burj Dubai, the world's tallest tower.
Emaar committed an investment of $1 billion in 2005 when it formed the venture to develop 10 luxury Armani resorts and hotels in key global cities.
The second Armani hotel is planned in Milan, followed by Marrakesh and New York.
Emaar chairman Mohammad Al Abbar said Emaar Hotels & Resorts is "undertaking several prestigious developments across the region" to benefit from a tourism boom.
The company said Dardenne, currently chief executive officer of Emaar Hospitality Group, will "steer the development of luxury projects in key cities and emerging markets"
