A healthy relationship: women and Presidente InterContinental
Understanding that gender equality in the workplace is imperative to the progress of the country on the global level in terms of productivity and perception, Presidente InterContinental is recognized for its innovative policies and practices regarding its women employees. The list of 20 is the result of information that has been collected and evaluated by the Great Place to Work Institute and Mujer Ejecutiva, Latin America's only magazine that is solely focused on the region's female workforce and the issues that influence their working environment. The decisive factors were those companies that have demonstrated a working environment that enable women to succeed while recognizing their exclusive needs. "We're very excited that Presidente InterContinental has been honored with the distinction of being one of the best places for women to work," said Isabel Azpiri, Public Relations Manager at Presidente InterContinental. "It gives me great pride to know that, as a woman, I'm working for a company that provides the infrastructure to get the best from their employees and help them reach their full potential." It's not only the female employees who feel special at Presidente InterContinental. Female guests at the hotel in Mexico City also get special treatment with the hotel's "women's only" floor. The designated floor at this Presidente InterContinental property gives jet-set ladies an added sense of security, not to mention additional "much needed" amenities, to ensure they have a worry-free and pleasurable experience in one of the world's great capitals. The "women's only" floor requires a special key to grant access to the floor, and allows only women admittance. This includes an all female staff (such as room and maid service) in addition to only female guests to further offer a sense of privacy and safe-keeping. The floor consists of 26 rooms which offer both city and park views, as well as a multitude of extra female-specific amenities. Presidente InterContinental scored high with its gender specific benefits, offering flexible hours during pregnancy and thereafter, no mandatory working night hours, health benefits including mammograms and a company hotline service for reporting and deterring sexual abuse. Moreover, Presidente InterContinental looks beyond its own walls and recognizes the importance of employee family betterment through scholarship contributions, a psychology treatment center for those dealing with inter-family violence and drugs, and an on-site child care center, all of which contributes to a well-rounded and satisfied work environment and community. Through such measures, the women of Presidente InterContinental are respected and appreciated for their work as indicated by their high retention rate. Other noted companies included in the list include: American Express Mexico, Sun Microsystems, and Grupo Scotiabank Mexico.
The company pioneered the travel industry's first collaborative response to environmental issues as founder of the International Hotels and Environment Initiative (IHEI). The IHEI formed the foundations of the Tourism Partnership launched by the International Business Leaders Forum in 2004, of which IHG is still a member today. The environment and local communities remain at the heart of IHG's global corporate responsibility focus. |
