Hilton foundation ventures into Europe to make a big difference for save the Children
The Small Change Big Difference campaign invites guests to add an optional £1 onto their room bill during October, November and December. Last year's campaign was a huge success raising £129,000 for Children with Leukaemia. This year the Hilton in the Community Foundation hopes to raise over £200,000 for Save the Children.
The Foundation will also pilot the campaign for the first time outside the UK and Ireland with 12 European hotels trialling ‘Small Change' in November and December. This expansion reflects Save the Children's International influence and participating hotels include Hilton Brussels, Vienna and Berlin.
All proceeds raised will go to the charity's Children's Emergency Fund. This is an ongoing programme of activity responding to emergencies all over the world as they strike. Children are some of the most vulnerable to disasters and being able to get aid to them swiftly on the ground is crucial after an emergency strikes.
Save the Children supporter and musician Katie Melua is backing the campaign. Katie is urging hotel guests to support this winter fundraiser which will help thousands of children survive emergencies.
"This campaign is offering you the opportunity to help children caught up in devastating emergency situations around the world like Georgia, Ethiopia and India. Right now, the Hilton Family of Hotels is giving you the chance to donate one pound to Save the Children's 'Children's Emergency Fund' when you stay at a participating hotel.
Your one pound donations can add up to make a BIG DIFFERENCE! The Small Change Big Difference campaign hopes to raise more than £200,000 for Save the Children through the generous guests who say 'YES' to donating one pound on their bill. Please give your support to children worldwide by supporting the Save the Children's, Children's Emergency Fund."
Simon Vincent, Chairman of the Hilton in the Community Foundation Trustees and Area President Hilton UK and Ireland, said:
"This is a very exciting campaign and one that I hope our generous guests will support once again. The Hilton in the Community Foundation is delighted to be working with Save the Children, a charity that does an outstanding job both in the UK and internationally. By choosing to add an optional £1 we can help make a huge difference to children in desperate need of our help worldwide."
The Hilton in the Community Foundation was founded in 2000 as Hilton Hotels' charity dedicated to supporting young people in need. Focused on Education and Health, grants supporting disadvantaged young people are made in the UK and Ireland, while in the event of international disaster; grants are made to relief organisations at the Trustees' discretion.
In 2007 the Foundation awarded £1.27 million to 238 charitable organisations benefiting over 1.5 million young people.
The Foundation's core costs are funded by Hilton Hotels, so every net pound raised goes directly to good causes. Donations are funded almost entirely through the generous efforts and contributions of Hilton team members, family and friends and with the support of Hilton guests and company suppliers.

Thanks to the generosity of Hilton and Conrad hotel guests who opted to donate £1 on their guest bills during the run up to Christmas, the Small Change, Big Difference campaign has raised £703,922 since its inception in 2004. Previous beneficiaries have been Barnardos and Teenage Cancer Trust in 2004 when the campaign launched, ChildLine in 2005, the Association of Children's Hospices in 2006, and Children with Leukaemia last year.
Pilot European Hotels this year
In Ireland, the campaign has run since 2005, with €5,000 being raised for the ISPCC's Childline service, in 2006, €9,202 raised for The Children's Sunshine Home in Dublin and 8619 Euro raised last year for Irish Autism Action. In 2008, the funds raised will benefit Barretstown, a specially-designed camp for children with serious illnesses - primarily cancer and serious blood diseases - from Ireland, Britain and throughout Europe, and their families.
