For the twelfth consecutive year, properties by Asian-based luxury hotel and resort operator GHM [General Hotels Management] prove themselves to be among the best in the industry, through recognition on the prestigious annual Condé Nast Traveler Gold List. GHM's impressive portfolio of distinctive and exclusive hotels consistently win travel and lifestyle awards and this year The Datai, Langkawi and The Chedi Chiang Mai, Chiang Mai shine on the Condé Nast Traveler Gold List.
The 16th Annual Gold List was compiled from 25,000 reader's votes on the world's best hotels, best resorts, mountain lodges and country inns. The Gold List pays tribute to the overall winners, and highest scorers in their respective regional categories, in terms of room quality, service, food, location, design and activities on offer.
"GHM is proud to manage a selection of properties bestowed time and time again with International awards. The Datai and The Chedi Chiang Mai are consistently offering guest's unique lifestyle experiences and this has been recognised by the readers of Conde Nast Traveller" said Mr Hans R Jenni, President and Director of GHM.
The Datai
The Datai in Langkawi, Malaysia is described by Condé Nast Traveler as a ‘perfect escape from the stress of the world.' The readers of the Condé Nast Traveler rated The Datai exceptionally highly in design, service and room quality.
The first GHM property to open, it quickly became one of the worlds most sought-after and award-winning hideaway resorts.
Located on the north western tip of the lush tropical island of Langkawi off the coast of West Malaysia, The Datai is truly an oasis of relaxation and tranquility surrounded by centuries-old virgin rainforest with a private footpath leading to an idyllic white sand beach, swimming pool and spa, and nearby golf course.
The Datai's 40 villas, 16 suites and 54 rooms are all set within the rainforest with their own private veranda and stunning views of the lush tropical landscape and breathtaking Andaman Sea beyond.
The Chedi Chiang Mai
The Chedi Chiang Mai in Thailand achieved an outstanding score in this year's Condé Nast Traveler's Gold List. Granted full marks in the food category, the high achiever also received significant recognition in the service, location and design categories.
The perfect-scoring main restaurant serves Thai, Indian, and global fusion in a colonial building and at an alfresco bar.
The Chedi Chiang Mai is without question the most stylish resort in Thailand's northern city of Chiang Mai. Ideally located on the banks of the Mae Ping River, it is set in idyllic tranquil grounds whilst still being just walking distance from the city centre.
Each of the resort's 84 exquisite rooms and suites boast private courtyards, open balconies and breathtaking views.
The resort is built around the historic former British consulate building, which has been converted to a delightful restaurant and evokes the nostalgic appeal of a bygone colonial era. The resort's stylish amenities, discreet service and sleek architectural lines are geared to discerning guests with a penchant for gracious hospitality.
A fantastic start to 2010, GHM looks forward to a prosperous new year for its entire portfolio of properties.
