Candlewood Suites, IHG's midscale extended-stay hotel brand, is taking a creative design approach for its next generation of standardized room décor packages. The brand has partnered with a graduate-level interior design class at the Savannah College of Art and Design to create fresh, modern designs to be implemented in public spaces and guest suites at existing and new Candlewood Suites hotels. This project follows the highly successful redesign of the Staybridge Suites standardized room décor by SCAD students in 2009. The President of the Dominican Republic, HE Leonel Fernández, visited the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) headquarters where he expressed his firm belief in the social and economic contribution of tourism to sustainable development. This is the first visit of a president of the Dominican Republic to the organization. Vietnamese authorities have banned a resort located on the country's most famous strip of white sand from using the nickname given by American servicemen who frolicked there on leave during the Vietnam War. The order comes amid tensions with neighboring China over disputed territory in the South China Sea. The four-star Sandy Beach resort has already destroyed about 4,000 brochures promoting "China Beach," and removed the name from its website. It is being asked to refer to the beach by its local name, Non Nuoc, which means mountain and water, a resort executive said on condition of anonymity citing sensitivity involving the matter.
