If social media has taught us anything, it's that no matter how many followers, fans or pins you have, you're eligible to win just about anything. In the travel industry, the rewards are even more appealing. By simply checking in, posting a photo, or filling out a Facebook form, travelers have a chance at winning everything from free hotel amenities to weeklong stays. To capitalize on the social media craze, some luxury hotels are hosting social media contests to get travelers in the mood to share.
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts celebrates social media day
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is hosting specials on June 30 - also known as "social media day" - for its fans on Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare. Restaurants and lounges throughout the Fairmont hotel portfolio will offer complimentary appetizers from 3pm on that day, and guests will also have the opportunity to a receive 25% discount at the same outlet until August 31.
Here's how it works:
Fairmont will share a fan-only coupon through its social sites, which users will be able print or email to their smart phone. Read: if you're not a fan of Fairmont hotels on Twitter, Facebook or Foursquare, sign up to receive the deals.
On the days leading up to June 30, Fairmont will post details about exclusive offers on the individual hotel's Foursquare pages. There will also be a Facebook quiz, which enters fans into a drawing for a seven-night stay at the hotel of their choice. Four additional fans will be awarded $150 Fairmont gift cards to use for spa, golf, dining, hotel stays and other experiences. Fairmont hotels around the world are participating, including the Fairmont Battery Wharf in Boston.
