Over 60 Awards Presented for Individual, Hotel and Team Efforts.
InterContinental Hotels Group honoured its top-performing hotels and people from across the region at its recent Asia Pacific Leadership Conference 2005 held in Kuala Lumpur. Themed “Together We Make a Difference”, the conference focused on the various aspects of leveraging brand value, delivering the brand promise, and driving revenue.
Presented annually, the awards attracted a record 330 nominations for individual, hotel, and team efforts, from the Group’s portfolio of hotels across the region as well as corporate offices. In line with the InterContinental Hotels Group’s ongoing efforts to streamline and improve its processes, this year’s nominations were done entirely online, via the Group’s Intranet. Winners were determined following two rounds of judging by the Group’s Regional Team and management committee.

Among this year’s winners are David Markham, Regional General Manager, South China, who won the Outstanding Multi Unit Leadership Award, and Amadeo Zarzosa, General Manager, InterContinental Resort Bali, who won the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts’ Hotel Leader of the Year Award (InterContinental Hotels & Resorts category). The winner of the Hotel Leader of the Year (Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts category) is Kerry Devine, General Manager, Crowne Plaza Perth, whilst Michael Wu, General Manager, Holiday Inn Central Plaza Beijing, was named Hotel Leader of the Year (Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts category).
In recognition of hotel leaders who excelled during challenging situations, Extraordinary Circumstances Awards were presented to Wolfgang Meusburger, General Manager, Holiday Inn Resort Phuket for the strength, compassion and professionalism he displayed amid the chaos of the tsunami aftermath; and to Amadeo Zarzosa, General Manager, InterContinental Resort Bali, for ensuring the safety and comfort of guests and staff as well as working closely with the central reservations offices to assist anxious friends and relatives of guests following the October Bali bombings.
A series of environmental and community involvement awards were also presented, to InterContinental Singapore for Outstanding Environmental Management through the use of energy efficient equipment which resulted in significantly lower energy costs, Holiday Inn Downtown Shanghai for their proactive fund-raising activities in support of the Save the Children movement in China, and Holiday Inn City Centre Shenyang for sponsoring the education of seven underprivileged children and aid to a cash-strapped local school.
