A recent survey by the company claims 34% now hold off planning a traditional two week mid-summer holiday in favour of several shorter, ad hoc trips abroad, spread throughout the year.
Over 83% of Brits polled intend taking between one and five short breaks this year and 21% are planning to take more holidays this year than last.
According to Visa, short trips abroad are still the preferred option.
When it comes to demographics, the Welsh are the most likely to take short breaks (46%), followed by people living in the east of England (43%). Scots are the least likely (19%).
The Visa report also reveals the majority of mini breaks are booked at short notice over the internet, with 20% booking less than two weeks before travelling. Only 4% of short breaks are booked six to 12 months ahead of departure.
Over 60% of those polled said they had booked a beach break and 36% had booked a city break. Adventure activities, camping and skiing also proved popular.
The research for Visa Europe was carried out online 21 May-3 June 2009 among 1,077 British tourists who are holidaying abroad in 2009.
Meanwhile, a survey from Holiday Extras.com reveals 52% of customers are booking their holiday within three months of departure, with 24% of those booking at the last minute.
Customers booked their August holidays on average 7.5 days later than last year.
