Kerzner International Appoints Robert F. Cotter President of the Company; Formerly Served as President and COO of Starwood
Solomon Kerzner, Chairman and CEO of Kerzner International Holdings Limited , is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert F. Cotter, 55, as President of the Company. An accomplished hotel executive, Cotter was most recently President and Chief Operating Officer of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. Moscow and London spend the least on labour relative to the volume of sales out of 10 leading European cities, according to a survey by TRI Hospitality Consulting’s HotStats service. At hotels in the best performing city, Moscow, payroll represented just 24.0 per cent of turnover for the month of January 2007. Wasn't it only “yesterday” that a few hundred million dollars seemed like a lot of money and made the headlines? After Blackstone's $39 billion purchase of Equity Office Properties deal was topped in deal size by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts’ bid for Texas Pacific Group (TXU) for about $45 billion, it almost seems like everyone yawns at “mere” billion dollar deals, much less something smaller. For example, did you notice any major headlines in the past couple of weeks about Winston Hotels being bought by Wilbur Investment for $850 million, or Apple Hospitality being bought by ING Clarion Partners for $890 million, or Hilton selling its Scandic Hotel chain to a private equity group for about $1.1 billion? Sales at London hotels continued to soar during the first month of this year, according to figures from TRI Hospitality Consulting’s monthly HotStats survey.Room revenue per available room was up 14.8 per cent to £75.88 as average room rates surged by 12.8 per cent to break through the £100 barrier and hit £104.09. Occupancy was also up, rising 1.3 points to 72.9 per cent.

The marketing strategy of specifically targeting some market segments, while leaving other segments to competitors, is unrealistic, according to a new report from Cornell University. Although the strategy of positioning a product to appeal to certain segments’ distinctive needs and wants is widely advocated by marketing professors, researchers have found little evidence that such a strategy leads to domination of the targeted segment. In the report, “Brand Segmentation in the Hotel and Cruise Industries: Fact or Fiction?,” Cornell marketing professor Michael Lynn tested the effectiveness of these strategies in the hotel industry.

While there may be truth to this, in reality there are a few key things you change on your website that will quickly improve how often your hotel’s website shows up in the search engines. And although I would never claim that if you do all of these you will see an increase in traffic from the search engines, I will go on the record that I’d be surprised if you didn’t at least see a bump.
