Last Wednesday evening saw Avvio’s own Rich Tuckwell named as one of Europe’s Top 20 Extraordinary Minds in Sales, Marketing and Technology. After having transformed the Avvio brand, grown its team and carved a name for the business in American soil in just under a year, Mr Tuckwell’s award is well deserved.
Mr Tuckwell joined Avvio, an Irish based company providing a premium booking platform for hotels, in May 2016. Previous to Mr Tuckwell’s enrolment, Avvio had focussed on markets close to home, namely the island of Ireland and the UK. Enter Rich, full of energy, expertise and innovative ideas to expand Avvio across seas.
In just a few months, Mr Tuckwell revitalised the Avvio brand and website with a sleek logo, new tagline and a vibrant colour pallet. He proactively surrounded himself with experts and doubled the size of the sales and marketing team. He then took the revitalised Avvio brand name and began to break into the North American market.
Mr Tuckwell took his first flight to represent Avvio in the USA in September 2016. Since then he has sponsored and spoken at several high-profile events to promote ‘Europe’s best booking engine’, including HITEC Las Vegas, the Caribbean Travel Market and the Hotel Experience event in New York.
“Growing the Avvio brand (as a thought leader in the industry) has been intense, but I’m loving every minute of it. It’s all about strategy,” said Mr Tuckwell. “And if you have a genuinely valuable and innovative service with leading expertise to showcase, like I do, you’ll find people are happy to hear what you have to say.”
Aside from the USA, Mr Tuckwell has also grown brand awareness for Avvio across Europe. In just three weeks, Mr Tuckwell has jetted between Berlin, Washington and Amsterdam. This week, he and Chris Rose exhibited a stand at HITEC Conference in Amsterdam and Rich also led a roundtable discussion at the HSMAI ROC.
“At the HSMAI Roc, we discussed the importance of mobile optimisation in the digital age,” said Mr Tuckwell. “A recent study has revealed that mobile browsing has overtaken desktop.
“While the hospitality industry is usually slow to embrace change, this is one technology trend accommodation providers can’t afford to ignore. It was invaluable to come together with a small group of industry experts to discuss the impact of the mobile revolution on the industry and how businesses can optimise their website for mobile booking and marketing.”
Ever the jetsetter, Mr Tuckwell is attending the International Hotel Technology Forum in Disneyland Paris on the April 5-7, where Avvio’s founder, Frank Reeves, will be moderating a roundtable discussing personalisation in the hotel industry.
From there, Mr Tuckwell will fly to New York City to attend the Serviced Apartment Summit Americas. He’ll be one of only 400 attendees, engaging and networking with senior SEOs and industry leaders. This is how Mr Tuckwell remains ever-poised to help Avvio innovate at every turn.
